As you are on this site, you are aware of our upcoming wedding. As you may not yet know, just a few weeks after the blessed event we will be moving overseas. I have a medical internship waiting for me in Alice Springs, Australia, which is where we will spend our first year of marriage. We are both excited about this, and the opportunity for adventure that it presents. However, if you'll take a few minutes to consult your map, you will notice that this move will require some significant air travel, which will seriously limit the amount of stuff that we can reasonably bring along.
We know how people love to give gifts to the new couple, to help establish a new home, etc. We also hope that people can understand that due to our situation we simply cannot accept physical gifts.
According to the internet (the same internet on which you currently find yourself), and whoever creates the rules of etiquette for weddings, it seems that there is no good way to provide this information. It is inappropriate to ask for gifts, or to ask for no gifts; to ask for money or for no money. Shirking etiquette, then, we feel it is necessary to say something rather than nothing. We would feel awful if our reception guests were to go out of their way to bring a gift that we could not accept. Our only official request is for your blessing.
